About this tour
Deep in the jungle of southern Quintana Roo, far from tourist routes, lie two of the most ancient and spiritually significant Maya sites in all of Mexico — Dzibanché and Kinichná. These twin capitals of the mysterious Kan Kingdom were among the most powerful cities in the ancient Maya world during the Early Classic period (AD 300–600), yet they remain virtually unknown to modern travelers. For Juan Carlos, these sites hold extraordinary LDS scholarly significance, representing a period and place that connects directly to the Book of Mormon's narrative timeline in ways that are not possible at the more famous, later-period sites.

Day schedule
6:00 AM
Hotel pickup
Very early departure from your Cancún or Riviera Maya hotel. These sites are a 4-hour drive from Cancún into the remote jungle of southern Quintana Roo. Juan Carlos uses the drive to set the historical and scholarly context for the day — a rich 4-hour introduction before arriving.
10:00 AM
Dzibanché Archaeological Site
Arrive at the vast ruins of Dzibanché — "writing in wood" — named for the extraordinary wooden lintels carved with hieroglyphic texts that were found here. The site's multiple plazas, temples, and tomb complexes spread across dense jungle. Juan Carlos delivers his most scholarly and detailed LDS narrative here, covering the Early Classic period, the Kan Kingdom, and the connections to Book of Mormon cities and civilization.
12:30 PM
Lunch in the jungle region
A satisfying meal at a local restaurant in the surrounding region, with traditional regional food and cold beverages included.
2:00 PM
Kinichná Archaeological Site
A short drive brings you to Kinichná — the twin ceremonial city to Dzibanché. Its soaring three-level acropolis is the defining structure: three platforms stacked on each other, each dedicated to a specific deity. The view from the top stretches across an endless flat jungle canopy — one of the most remarkable vistas in the Yucatán Peninsula.
3:30 PM
Return drive
The 4-hour return drive back to Cancún and the Riviera Maya, with comfortable vehicles. Juan Carlos continues the conversation and answers questions throughout. Estimated arrival back to your hotel around 7:30–8:00 PM.
