About this activity
Punta Laguna is one of the Yucatán Peninsula's best-kept secrets — a protected nature reserve deep in the jungle where spider monkeys swing freely overhead, howler monkeys call from the canopy, and a hidden cenote drops 12 meters into crystal-clear water below. This afternoon adventure packs extraordinary experiences into 5–6 hours: rappelling into a stunning cenote, spotting wild primates in their natural habitat, exploring lesser-known Maya ruins untouched by mass tourism, and soaring above the treetops on a zipline. The day closes with a tropical refreshment platter as the sun dips below the jungle canopy.

Afternoon schedule
12:00 PM
Hotel pickup & jungle drive
Comfortable pickup from your hotel. Your guide shares the history and ecology of Punta Laguna on the drive — including why this protected reserve is one of the last strongholds for spider and howler monkeys on the Yucatán Peninsula.
~1:30 PM
Primate encounter — spider & howler monkeys
Enter the reserve and immediately look up — spider monkeys and howler monkeys move through the treetops above you. Your naturalist guide knows where to spot them and explains their social structures, diet, and the conservation efforts protecting this rare wild population.
~2:30 PM
Cenote rappel — 12 m drop into crystal water
Gear up with a harness and helmet, then rappel down 12 meters into a stunning hidden cenote. The underground chamber opens into crystal-clear fresh water surrounded by ancient rock formations. Swim, float, and take in a place few tourists ever reach. All equipment and instruction included.
~3:45 PM
Maya ruins overlooking the lagoon
Walk to a cluster of Maya ruins with a sweeping view over the forest lagoon. These lesser-known structures see a fraction of the visitors that famous sites attract — quiet, atmospheric, and surrounded by nothing but jungle sounds. Carlos connects this sacred space to LDS historical context.
~4:30 PM
Zipline above the jungle canopy
Strap in and soar above the treetops on the reserve zipline, with panoramic views of the lagoon and the surrounding jungle stretching to the horizon. A pure adrenaline highlight to cap the adventure.
~5:00 PM
Sunset refreshment platter & return
Unwind with a tropical refreshment platter — fresh fruits, snacks, and cold drinks — as the golden afternoon light filters through the canopy. Then head back to the hotel, arriving early evening with a full afternoon of extraordinary memories.
